• Afro Samurai [wiki] is a five parter US/Japan anime starring Samuel Jackson and scored by RZA (who also provided the soundtrack for Ghostdog: Way of the Samurai - one of my all time favorite films).

• BBCNews: Police hunting mystery swordsman. A little old and originally just thrown onto my LJ, but it's still so cool: "The officers were threatened by a man with a knife after they discovered armed men trying to break into a house in Laygate, South Shields. Another man armed with a samurai sword appeared and attacked the man with the knife, before leaving the scene."

• Sassy Magazine is a legend heard about via rough mentions in the biographies of those mid-nineties rock stars I so adore. Cute Band Alert is a retrospective of said magazine's influence during the switchover in the early nineties where grunge obliterated mainstream boyband pop. [via]

Nine people die in the insanely violent storms that are whipping their way across the UK this week. I nearly lost my £3 George @Asda hat on the way to work, and my mood is not much different to the weather. But this will all pass, hopefully without too many more casualties.

The lag was awful, some people had unwittingly turned on PvP, and nothing happened... but we were there for the Dark Portal being opened. I just wish I'd bought my expansion pack from Play.com instead of Amazon, as they delivered in time for the midnight server time opening.

(edit) Two thousand people queue at midnight in London to buy the expansion. Whoa. For the HORDE!

• God, doesn't Pan's Labyrinth look like the best film to come out recently?
  

• So prevalent is the xenophobia in the UK, that the government has to try and convince the public of the benefits of immigration. Various anti-immigration groups are of course, dedicated to scaremongering the public into thinking that people coming to work in the UK are taking jobs and housing without providing all the facts. Guess who's being listened to?

• Worn Free T-shirts are printing up t-shirts that ye olden rock stars famously wore. I think John Lennon was massively overrated outside of the Beatles, but I do like his Working Class Hero shirt. But the prices are a little extortionate, especially when they're not selling original designs.

• Did you know that the Manicouagan Reservoir in Quebec is a crater left by a meteor-like object? So cool.

• What does 200 calories look like? It looks like tasty.
